M.I.R.A

MIRA is a projector on wheels for the neuro ICU at Mount Sinai, built for a clinical sleep study. Staff roll it to a patient's bed and play calming video and sound, to ease the noise and broken sleep that leave about 20% of ICU survivors with PTSD symptoms.

On a team of 3 at Studio Elsewhere, I led development of the app that runs it: one Electron app driving a touchscreen and the projector together.

Dual-screen app

Problem

One Mac mini on the cart has to drive two screens at once: a touchscreen for staff and patients, and the projector the patient watches. The two have to stay in sync.

What I built

One Electron app with two windows. The touchscreen sets up and controls the session; the projector window plays it, in step.

Every session is part of the study, so the app records what was played, for whom, and for how long.
